Social skills class

Helping children learn to connect, communicate, and play with others.

Service Description

Our Social Skills Group helps children develop important social and communication skills in a small, supportive group setting. This group is designed for children with autism as well as children who are struggling to meet age-appropriate social milestones. Some children may find it difficult to join play, take turns, handle losing a game, share materials, or include others in activities. This group provides a safe space where they can practice these skills with guidance and encouragement from trained therapists. Through structured activities, games, and guided play, children interact with peers while receiving support to help them navigate social situations successfully. The goal is to help children feel more confident and comfortable during interactions at school, in the community, and with friends. What skills are targeted? ✔ Taking turns and sharing ✔ Playing cooperatively with peers ✔ Starting and maintaining interactions ✔ Waiting ✔ Following group routines ✔ Understanding basic social cues ✔ Flexible thinking and problem solving ✔ Accepting that they may not always win or get their way ✔ Learning to share materials ✔ Attention ✔ Including others in play and activities These are everyday experiences that children encounter at daycare, school, and during play with peers. In this group, they can practice these situations in a structured and supportive environment where therapists guide and reinforce positive social interactions. What does a typical session look like? Each session includes a combination of structured activities and natural play opportunities, such as: ✔ Greeting and warm-up activity ✔ Cooperative games or group challenges ✔ Guided play to practice interaction with peers ✔ Turn-taking activities or simple board games ✔ Closing activity with encouragement and positive feedback Therapists provide modeling, prompts, and support to help children practice new skills and build confidence interacting with others. What is the typical age range? Groups are generally organized by developmental level and age. Most groups include children approximately 4 to 10 years old, though this may vary depending on the needs of the participants. Who is eligible to join? To participate in this group, children should: ✔ Understand simple verbal instructions ✔ Be able to communicate their basic needs Parents must first book an initial intake meeting prior to registering their child for this service. How much does it cost? 55$ per session (2hrs)
